Finally; my first showreel
After nine months of research, selection, editing and education in Final Cut, my first showreel is finally ready. I hope you enjoy it.
Note. It's entirely in Cantonese except for two scenes in English, and one scene in Mandarin.
If you have difficulty loading and viewing the video, it's now also available on YouTube here.

Good to hear that you've still got the Aussie accent. Onya, mate!

I'm jealous. Your acting skills are amazing. When you play these roles, I can actually believe you would be that person in real life.
When you play a police officer for example, you are very convincing and give a realistic feeling for the role. comparison to Brian Burrell, I didn't have the same impression. Seems like comical or joking in some way, while you slot into nearly every role like you are that person in real life.
I hope you can put up a compilation of your acting progression throughout the years. Like 表姐你好野IV to your last appearance; this would be a very memorable video.

hi Milan.
give Brian time. if he has the desire to act naturally, he'll get there eventually.
compilation? it's a possibility, but I only have clips from the last 10 years, and nothing from before that except for 太平天國 (1988). I'd love to get my hands on 大茶園 (1988) but it was never released on DVD.
cheers, Gregory

that was really enjoyable! i hope you can add more to it (of your appearances in older dramas and movies too)!

SK,
I can't add to the showreel from older shows because the acting and appearance would not be appropriate. I do have other clips though, and I'll make them available later :-)
cheers, Gregory

Hi Gregory,
Classic acts! You are really talented in what you pursue. Please stay that way and you know your fans will cheer for you. Look forward to seeing your next performance in HK.
Happy New Year for the Ox.

thanks!
Some good clips there..... love the queer you in one of the clips, quite different from the "gwai lo" officials/boss roles... Will you be appearing in any more musicals in the near future? I'm a great fan of musicals.

hello Julie.
musicals? it's possible that there might be one or two musicals this year. no definite details yet though.
cheers, Ho Kwok Wing

yea...that queer character does break the embedded police officer or other mr Smith or Mr Brown that you've portrait previously. I also like the one where you're wearing the a blue Chinese short sleeved shirt and wearing glasses and you end up being slapped in the upper arm...love that one, au naturel. However, I'm still very interested in you musical and too bad it isn't available anywhere.

Pegasus,
因為這個影片的格式是 H.264,所以看這個片段需要 Flash 最新的版本。
現在,你也可以在 YouTube 看這個片段了。
台灣的朋友,請好好保重。

Bravo!!
Wow....actually I am not too sure what a showreel is. Now I reckon it is kind of snapshots of your performance?! That is really excellent!! Can you really speak mandarin? You are really talented! I like your grubby hair style on the last stage snapshot too, hahah...it looks great on you!! The other snapshots with your 'gay gay de' acts was entertaining too!! haha...The sound record for the last stage snapshot is not very clear though, can hardly hear the conversation, not sure if that is the problem with my speaker, but other shots sounded great! How come you did not include your singing part in it, and more stage performance? I really want to see more!! ;)

Bobo,
你太過獎了!
A showreel is a collection of the pieces of the various works we have done, which is then presented to directors, casting directors, etc to demonstrate what we as actors and performers can do.
I could have included singing performances but the ones I have on tape are either too old or not good enough. soon though...
"They're Playing Our Song" was recorded for the director's own use. At the time, my PowerBook was connected to the sound system to record the sound, but between an error in my MP3 recording settings and the unbalanced output from the sound system, the resultant recording could not be synced with the video!!! oh well...
I can speak a little Mandarin, but probably not as well as your German or Japanese :-)
take care.

Showreel
Call your agent, ditch HK and TVB's wooden acting and the predictable plots. Keep "practising" your Aussie accent and get yourself on House M.D!

Great video btw!

congratulations
Hi Gregory,
Finally got a chance to watch your showreel - great compilation of the recent years. I like the contrast of the characters you picked - it lets us see the range of skills you have. I know though you have many more characters you have played but I like the ones you chose. Anyone can do a showreel but to have a meaningful showreel is not always achievable. I hope you know that yours is the meaningful one because many of your fans like I, watch it and smile / reminisce at seeing how you've "grown" over the years. Congratulations!
Happy New Year! Wishing you a healthy, happy and prosperous new year!

Awesome!
You need go back to TVB!!! I am just saying. I understand why you decided to leave, but I do really miss seeing you on television! I love that part you had from Dicey Business, you looked very "ying". I really actually liked the character you played on Gateau Affairs, you should have put some of that in! Good Luck!

Sandy,
:-) a big 'thank you' for the support.
I couldn't include 「情迷黑森林」 in the reel because it was too old. it wouldn't represent a true reflection of how I appear today. I have one or two clips from that series though, and I hope to make it available to readers later.
take care,
河國榮

I don't suppose you can give a list of where all these clips came from. I'd love to actually watch some of these :D

Final Cut
At the top you've indicated that you've made your showreel on Final Cut. How does it compare to Final Cut Express and iMovie?

Bravo!
I can see a wide repertoire of acting skills in the clip. It really proves you're experienced. Unfortunately I missed all of these shows on TV before as I've been here for more than 10 years.
